I do my best (and fail repeatedly) to live by these rules. Some of them are cobbled together from other people, a few of them are uniquely my own. One is something my mom told me she says to herself, another is something that I heard my dad randomly say once that has always stuck with me. Mostly these are things that I try to remind myself of frequently. I’ve found that finding meaning in life is helped along by adhering to a set of principles. This is my list so far:
- Respect your brain
- Move. Daily.
- Create, don’t compete
- No gurus
- Breathe. Often & deeply. (Breathe deeply daily.)
- Don’t freak out.
- Think truth, regardless of appearances
- Don’t wait to be happy about your life. Be happy now.
- Do today’s work well (then let it go)
- Decide, then take action.
- Imagine greatness
- Smile. Laugh. Savor this moment.
- Be specific.
- Do more of what you enjoy. Enjoy more of what you do.
- Listen to your inner voice. Listen to your intuition. That’s ‘God’ talking.
- ‘Put it down once’
- Finish what you start
- When you don’t know where to start, start somewhere.
- If not now, when? If not you, who?
- Respect what you already have
- Why start / do / finish this? Because I said I would.
- Baby Steps, Walk, Jog, Run
- ‘Ain’t nothin’ to it but to do it’
- Condition yourself.
- Do what’s hard
- Freedom is on the other side of discipline
- Break your goal into habits
- ‘Today, another day in which to excel’
- “Silly Brain!”
- Sleep!
- I can do this.
