I’m a big fan of Sam Harris. I’ve been following his podcast for some time now, and his Waking Up meditation app is fantastic.
A better way to put it would be to say ‘The ‘Waking Up’ app is fantastic… when I actually use it.’
It’s time to eliminate the qualifier from that sentence.
If I am to become the person that I want to become then I know that making daily meditation a part of my life is an absolute necessity. If I want to be successful then I have to make this a part of my daily equation.
Right here, right now I am committing myself to a mediation practice.
In the beginning I am committing to 10 minutes a day. There’s a daily meditation within the app that helps facilitate this quite easily.
I’ll check in here periodically with status updates. I’ll also experiment with posting my weekly progress here.
Here’s to a more mindful mind.
- Day 1 / Sunday, May 15th, 2022
- Day 9 / Monday, May 22nd, 2022 / 9 days in a row. I want to begin a habit of meditating first thing in the day. That will be my goal for the coming week.
- Day 37 / Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022 / I forgot to meditate today (I’m updating this the following day). My ‘streak’ was for 36 days of daily 10 minute meditation.
- Day 1 / Thursday, June 23rd, 2022 / Begin again with beginners mind
- Day 34 / Tuesday, July 26th, 2022 / My ‘streak was for 34 days of daily 10 minute meditation.
- Day 1 / Friday, July 29th, 2022 / Begin again with a beginners mind. I think that it’s ok to have these smaller ‘streaks’. This isn’t some type of contest. There isn’t a prize for ‘most days in a row of meditation’. I’ll continue to track and document the experience but I think that as I progress on this journey that will matter less and less to me.
Update: 10/24/22: It became too much to track things at this granular a level and keep up with posting my progress here. I’m continuing to listen to talks on the Waking Up app, and have become a big fan of Alan Watts in particular. I’m continuing to meditate, but I don’t want to make it just another box that I tick off in my ‘to do’ list.
